Poker is a card game that involves betting and the formation of hands. A player’s success in the game is determined by the combination of their hand strength, pot odds, and strategic decisions. This balanced approach to the game is what distinguishes professional players from casual ones.
To play the game, each player “buys in” for a set amount of chips. A white chip is usually worth a minimum ante of one or two chips; a red chip is typically worth five chips; and a blue chip is typically worth 10 chips. At the beginning of each round, the cards are shuffled and then dealt to the players, one at a time, starting with the player to the left of the dealer button (or buck). A player can say “call” or “raise” to put in an additional amount of money into the pot during their turn.
The player with the best 5-card hand wins the pot. If there is a tie, the pot is divided evenly among the players with the highest-ranked hands.

They also know that bluffing isn’t just about how many chips they can put into the pot; it’s about evaluating their opponent’s range, the board, and the overall size of the pot to make well-timed calls.
